FROM THE PRESIDENT

This year, the Alliance is excited to be joining forces with the Fresno area Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Medical Reserve Corp (MRC). These two non-profit organizations are part of Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring homeland security. We will work with them to disseminate information to our community on emergency preparedness in the event a disaster strikes. CERT provides training to people of all ages. For more information, log on to http://www.certfresno.org.
The Medical Reserve Corp. units are community-based and MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources. These volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. Many community members—interpreters, chaplains, offi ce workers, legal advisors, and others—can fill key support positions. For more MRC information, log on to http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov.
The Alliance is also working on developing a nutritional booklet to be distributed to several schools as part of the Alliance and the Healthy Schools Project/Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families. Marian Mosley will represent the FMMSA on the Nutrition Network Advisory Committee and Sharon Owang is a Director.
