The Fresno-Madera Medical Society Alliance had its
beginnings during a meeting at University-Sequoia Club on December 4, 1935. Fifty-two charter physician spouses attended, and were considered "Members of the Women's Auxiliary to Fresno County Medical Society" if they paid their $2.00 dues. Although altered to a slight degree over the years, the purposes of the organziation are:
1. To assist the Fresno-Madera Medical Society in their programs for the advancement of medicine and public health, upon request.
2. To promote the health education projects and charitable activities that improve the health and quality of life in our community.
This year we will have a team-of-five planning 2009-2010 activities. The President's Committee includes Sharon De St. Jeor, Jan Goza, Susie Bartlett, Naomi Flam, and Eleanor Beil.
On the 2009-2010 agenda: October 13, Cyndi Ginn hosted a salad luncheon at her home in Clovis, with Bill Beal, local Master Gardener and "iris expert," gave a presentation on fall bulb planting.
November 10, FMMSA members gathered at Fresno State for lunch and a tour of the new library! At the annual December gathering, Alliance members met at the Metropolitan Museum for a peek at the decorator trees, followed by a luncheon. The 2010 "line-up," opened with a Chinese New Year Luncheon featuring speaker Muriel Strum. Furture acivitie include a March 9 luncheon highlighting a cooking demonstration in Alliance member Barbara Capell's kitchen, a behind-the-curtain view of Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater in April, and the annual Garden Party in May.
